I Found Jesus & Made a Lifelong Friend
I discovered the church in the ad section of the local newspaper. AND…I found JESUS there at that church!
There was something missing in my life, but I could not figure out what it was.
I had searched my whole life for what my mother had had. A peace and joy that helped her rise above her suffering.
Sharing How I Found Jesus
I had only been attending a few months when the ladies Bible group at the church asked me to give my testimony in front of the whole group. I was really nervous.
When I get nervous, my mouth goes dry.
I was thinking: “Who do I think I am up here in front of these seasoned believers, talking about loving Jesus?”
These women had taught me everything I knew up to that point.
They loved Jesus, they loved his Word, and they loved each other.
A Simple Glass of Water
They were such lovely women, but I still felt inadequate. I didn’t even really know how to ask JESUS to help me to speak.
My mouth kept getting drier and drier. Then, I began little coughs and then big coughs.
One of the women brought me a glass of water.
It was exactly what I needed. So simple. Just a glass of water. But she saw a need and met it.
I felt loved and cared for.
A simple glass of water. At just the right time. Isn’t that how God works?
It’s not BIG things (though they can be great, too) but it is a series of little things that accumulate and build on each other. Meeting needs one person at a time. Blessing each other in small ways. Being attentive and kind.
“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
Matthew 10:42
I Found Jesus & Made a Lifelong Friend
That sweet woman has been my best friend for over 50 years! We live far away from each other now, but we stay in contact via telephone. I love those times of “connecting” and “catching up.”
The gift of long-lasting Christian friendship. There is nothing sweeter or more refreshing.
A simple glass of water began it all! And the “reward” has been sweet!
