You Yearn For Me
My Father, thank You that You yearn for time with me. You yearn to hear my voice crying out to you–in my joys and in my tears. You never tire of hearing from me. That is so hard to grasp, my Lord, since in the “real” world here on earth – the world I can touch and feel – it feels as though there is NO ONE who yearns for time with me. Just today, I was asking You, “Why did You give me a love language that desires QUALITY TIME with others, in a world that is “BUSY” and pre-occupied?
Let’s talk about it
Dictionary.com gave me a little help:
A deep longing, especially when accompanied by tenderness or sadness:
- a widower’s yearning for his wife.
- an instance of such longing.
Or a longing for acceptance. A feeling of something being missing. A sense of emptiness. Desiring a kindred spirit.
Kindred spirit
YES! That is it exactly. A longing for a kindred spirit.
And seriously, no HUMAN can truly meet that need in any of us. Only the LORD, our CREATOR, can meet that deep longing.
When we stop to think it through, we know without a doubt, it is a true-ism. We are built for Christ. We yearn for Him. But when we try to fill the empty spaces with something else, we will never be satisfied. There is a built-in yearning that our Creator puts in each of us. Functioning without Christ is a distortion from the original design.
My Father yearns for me.
The more I spend time in the Scriptures, reading how God relates to His people, the more I see how much He yearns for the “connection” with me. And with you.
He desires deep relationship. Not the superficial five minute quick verse in the morning before you rush off to your day. Not the “too busy” schedule that squeezes Him out as a last resort, when all else has failed.
He longs…He yearns…for us to CHOOSE HIM as our FIRST LOVE in all things. EVERY DAY!
Women’s Bible teacher
I remember a Bible teacher many years ago (and when I was very young). She shared her heart with us–she did not want to be a GRUMPY OLD PERSON some day. And God showed her in order to be a NOT-grumpy OLD person, she would have to actually daily practice being UN-grumpy at the age she was currently. We all know it doesn’t just HAPPEN. It takes deliberate choices daily!
David Jeremiah shares about growing older
He says we can choose NOT to be a grumpy old person. Be kind. Be grateful for what you have. He says when trouble comes, God says to seek His face. He has a million ways He wants to tell you that He loves you. Worship makes God BIG in your heart. And that makes everything better. Worship makes us yearn for God.
Romans 8:26 (NLT)
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.”
James 4:5 (TLB)
”…what do you think the Scripture means when it says that the Holy Spirit, which God placed within us, watches over us with tender jealousy?”
Whatever you feed
I am reminded of the quote about their being a type of “black dog” and a “white dog” within each of us. And being reminded that whichever one we feed, will get stronger.
Do you yearn for time with God?
It surely takes discipline. It is a choice. Choose the “white dog”—time with your Lord—every chance you get. He LOVES it when we do that!

Timing
I happen to be typing this blog during the week of Thanksgiving in the USA. No matter what “age” we are, it seems—oddly enough—an attitude of gratitude is often shoved out to make room for all the BUSY-NESS of the travel, preparation, and schedules.
We forget to MAKE TIME for the Lord. We get grumpy with the people we are sharing the day with. We think we haven’t time to be nice. We have stuff to accomplish! We are simply “too busy”.
We are weary from keeping up the standard. There is something wrong with that picture. I sure don’t know how to solve it, because it seems to be that way each and every year. People get grumpy getting ready for Thanksgiving Day.
Weird, huh?
Beginning today
It’s not just Thanksgiving Day that we notice this, is it?
Are we actually YEARNING for HEAVEN? What if Jesus came back today while we are grumpy or too busy for Him? Are you ready to see Him face-to-face? Let’s feed the “white dog” and let’s make a pact together.
Let’s turn our BUSY into an action step: CHOOSING to make Quality Time with God a priority. One day at a time. Each day is a fresh start. I have a feeling that will make all else that we are BUSY with to fall into place in a beautiful and peaceful way.
Let me know how it goes for you.
